Jagan in judicial custody; mother to campaign in bypolls

YSR Jagan Mohan Reddy Congress chief, arrested in a disproportionate assets case, is now remanded in judicial custody for two weeks until June 11 by a CBI court in Hyderabad.A principal Pullaiah Judge dismissed petition the agency for 14 days' CBI recall of 39-year-old Jagan, MP from Kadapa, taken in custody last night.
The court allowed the petition of Jagan seeking special status of prisoners under the rules of Andhra Pradesh jail.
Later he was taken to jail Chanchalguda central city in the midst of tight security.
Jagan seeking to recall, senior counsel Ashok Bhan CBI alleged that the YSR Congress chief was "sent by (reward value) in another country and it got reinvested in its business through the hawala racket.
"Jagan never cooperated with the investigation within the three-day period of inquiry in the true sense," the CBI counsel will stand.
"Jagan can not masquerade as a victim of the CBI probe. He can not attack the CBI to be victimized. He has hoodwinked the people a large sum of money. He can not seek public sympathy. He deprived poor people and caused them irreparable loss and in turn enriched themselves through dubious mechanism by sending funds abroad and getting the same invested in his company, "advice stand.
The CBI has charged him under Section 120-B (criminal conspiracy), 420 (cheating), 409 (criminal breach of trust) and 477A (falsification of accounts) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 13 of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The defense counsel contended that "the arrest (of Jagan) itself is illegal when his anticipatory bail plea is pending. It's abuse of law.
"This is an attempt to somehow stop him from campaigning (for the upcoming bypolls in Andhra Pradesh). If a person complies with the notice and appearing before the agency, they should arrest him," Jagan counsel contended.
